Who is Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo (BTO)?

Hon. Bunmi Tunji Ojo, popularly known as BTO, is a seasoned engineer, entrepreneur, and political leader who has consistently displayed an unwavering commitment to public service. Born in Oyin Akoko, Ondo State, Hon. BTO’s career spans over two decades, combining his skills in both public and private sectors, making a significant impact in governance and policy reform. Before becoming Minister of Interior, Hon. BTO represented the Akoko North East/Akoko North West Federal Constituency in the Nigerian House of Representatives, where he chaired the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) Committee and initiated impactful legislative reforms.

Achievements as Minister of Interior

Hon. BTO’s leadership is grounded in transparency, accountability, and an unrelenting drive for efficiency, which has earned him widespread praise for his role in reshaping Nigeria’s internal security landscape.

Since his appointment in August 2023, Hon. BTO has brought a transformative vision to the Ministry of Interior, swiftly implementing numerous reforms. His notable achievements include:

Passport Reforms

Clearing a backlog of over 200,000 passport applications within his first two weeks in office, greatly improving the efficiency of the Nigerian Immigration Service

Justice Reforms

Spearheading criminal justice reforms that saw the release of over 4,000 inmates from correctional centers, focusing on rehabilitation and reducing prison overcrowding

e-Platforms

Introducing e-platforms for visa processing and enhancing e-passport services at key Nigerian embassies across Europe, ensuring easier access for Nigerians abroad

Improved Welfare

Advocating for improved welfare and salaries for security personnel, promoting equitable compensation across Nigeria’s paramilitary services
